November is the month of Thanksgiving. One way we show thanks is to follow Christ’s teachings and feed those who are less fortunate. This month we are celebrating our thanks to God for all the blessings we have been given by having a month of “Souper” Sundays. Every Sunday this month, bring at least one can of soup, or some non-perishable item, with you when you come to services and place it in the Food Pantry Ministry collections tub in the church foyer. We will dedicate these weekly gifts to God and our Food Pantry Ministry staff will distribute your gifts to those in need.

All of us know, or have known of, people who lived so God-like that we considered them “saints.” We have been celebrating some of the great saints of scripture and contemporary history during the month of November with a 4-week series entitled “People Who Have A Heart Like God’s,” with foundational scriptures found in Hebrews 12:1-2 and Ephesians 2;1-6.

“REFLECTION” FROM REV. HARVEY
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! – Psalm 133:1
Rob had been through the death of one congregation; he didn’t want to see it happen again. There really weren’t any problems that couldn’t be worked out in Christian love. This church had been through a lot, and there was no reason to believe that it couldn’t weather a lot more storms. If everyone would just remember that they were there to serve Christ, then everything would work out fine. If Christ could calm the Sea of Galilee, He should have no trouble with the church on earth.
Christ built His church as a place for harmony and unity. It is a place for people to come together in celebration and love. Christ rejoices when his family lives together in peace. We, too, can rejoice, for there is nothing better than being able to dwell together in His love.
Prayer: The best friends in the world to have are those who are bonded together with me through my faith. Bring joy to my relationships, Lord, and Bless me with Harmony and Unity. Amen.

Why Go to Church???
A church member wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. “I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote. “and now that time I have heard something like 3,00 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”
This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: “I’ve been married for 30 years now in that time my wife has cooked some32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”
When you are DOWN to nothing…. God is UP to something! Faith see the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! THANK God for your physical AND our spiritual nourishment!
DECEMBER: A HOLIDAY FRUITCAKE

CHILDREN’S CHURCH MINISTRY

We need more adults on the Children’s Ministry Team. If you can take a Sunday to help out with the children please let Monique know. Two adults will be present at all times with children. We still need Children’s Bible Story DVD’s for this ministry, like “Veggie Tales” that are available at Wal-Mart.

What’s in a name?
St. Luke’s – The name “St. Luke’s” was chosen as our name in 1984 because Saint Luke was the only Gentile writer of the Bible. He was a physician and patron saint of healing. St. Luke’s Gospel is the Gospel of women, gentiles, prodigals, and Samaritans.
Act 29 Newsletter - Saint Luke also wrote the book of Acts, and it’s the New Testament book that records the history of the birth and growth of the church. The Book of Acts ends rather abruptly in the 28th chapter, but the history and growth of the church continues. Our e-newsletter strives to tell that continuing story of church growth and so the name Act 29 was chosen. St. Luke’s Community Church might be considered the 29th act in the drama of God’s redemption.
